No, i think there's a certain hardware requirement (like a DSP that can handle AMR) for it, that the other phones don't meet.

Hey I got my phone from buy.com with AMR already enabled, as I checked the service menu and the AMR_FR and AMR_HR shows up under configuration.

I use cingular and I heard that cingular hates AMR.

How do I disable AMR? Can I do it on the phone?

You can do it with the latest client, but it will require a credit.

1: Open the client.
2: Check "Advanced" and go into the "Advanced" configuration dialog.
3: Check "AMR Patch" and set the drop-down list to "Disable AMR".
4: Click "OK" to return to the main screen.
5: Make sure only "Advanced" is checked.
6: Press "Flash" and follow the on-screen instructions.

This procedure (like all other procedures in the client) requires you to have installed the EPI USB Flash driver. The installation guide for that can be found in the FAQ.
